In this hands-on course, Molly will share her approach to dynamic drypoint printing, focusing on image-building, free drawing and purposeful ink wiping. Participants will gain rare insight into the drawing and inking techniques that make Molly’s work so distinctive.

The Drypoint Masterclass is divided across three dates but can also be attended individually.

Class 1: Introduction to Drypoint

Class 2 : Developing image making and various techniques

Class 3 : Developing skills into ambitious final artworks

Molly’s practice spans drawing, painting and printmaking. Her figurative work often explores broad themes rather than specific narratives where semi swaddled, compressed figures inhabit strange, symbolic settings and chaotic, ambiguous landscapes.

Through humour and playfulness, Molly uses her practice to process and examine complex human relationships and sensations. In printmaking, she uses drypoint and etching to explores the subtle, uncertain language of intaglio. Gentle ink wiping allows her to shape images on the plate, balancing light and dark tones with sweeping marks to reveal semi-intangible worlds filled with wonder and darkness.

What to Expect

A behind the scenes look at Molly’s drypoint methods and recommendations /techniques and materials.

Guided platemaking: Work alongside Molly as you design, build, and refine your own drypoint plates, which may include cutting alternative shapes and designs.

Explorative Image Making: Explore compositions with collage and drawing when designing your drypoint plate.

Printing techniques masterclass: Learn how to ink and print your plates, and experiment with simple intaglio printing.

Who is this for?

This masterclass is ideal for both artists with some previous experience of intaglio printmaking or total beginners!

Accessibility

Regrettably, there is no step-free access to the studio, which is in a basement room that includes a set of steep stairs.

FAQ

Do I need to prepare anything before the workshop?

No, but do feel free to bring any visual references that you might want to have with you when making your Tetra Pak print. There will be some reference books for you to take inspiration from in the studio, too! 

What’s included?

All materials needed are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose e.g. a certain kind of paper you’d like to print with.
